2005 ~ A retrospective by reverendtimothy

General

What a year 2005 has been. Non-stop partying, studying, and... well... everything it seems! This year I’ve once again dappled in everything including painting, photography, digital art, cycling, body boarding, music, teaching my cat to play 'fetch', trying Absinth for the first time, and of course expanding my website empire... you name it, I’ve tried it! People often ask me where I get all my spare time from and I still don’t know what to tell them.

Fame and Fortune

OK, so I had my 15 minutes once or twice throughout the year. I was spotted in Ralph magazine (after they corrected their initial error), as well as being recognised from my website at a party and in town on separate occasions. Hmm. Last year I was recognised once, this year twice, next year three times? Hehe.

I also had my signature brush with B-grade celebrities such as Gianna from Big Brother. Nothing too exciting, though. I didn’t bump into Chuck Norris or anything.

Work & University

I had the graduation ceremony for my Bachelors of Business Information Systems this year, and finished my Masters in BIS too (with the ceremony to be held next year). Part of me is glad it’s over, but there’s a part of me (albeit a small part) that will always miss University (even if I sometimes think it isn’t much of a University at all).

My final Uni results weren’t too bad, finishing up with a 5.8 GPA – and who could argue that with high quality work such as this or this? Hahaha. I also have a video of my final presentation that I’ll get around to uploading eventually.

Since I resigned from Hostworks at the end of last year to focus on my Masters, I’ve spent this year in and out of temp work for extra pocket money whilst studying. I’ve dressed up as an M&M, worn a giant Nintendo suit, acted as a 1950s Chicago Gangster, MC’d a Vodaphone soccer tournament, and waited tables at a function centre (twice :-P). I finished my work experience placement at UCWA early in the year, and finished a Government work experience placement at the end of the year – from which I secured my very own desk job. Woo! If my resume wasn’t looking impressive before, it sure is now. ;-)

Hair

OK, so now my hair has been nearly every colour under the sun. I’ve previously had it black and green in past years, but this year I’ve had it permanently dyed blue, brown, red and purple. About the only colours I haven’t gone are pink and orange, neither of which I’m too keen on trying ;-) (unless I can get a fundraiser dare happening for the pink... Hmm!)

Stunts

Hahaha. 2005 was a great year for stunts. The year started with my Mike Monroe style foot-in-the-door hard-hitting questions to Shane Crawford about TISM. Then there was the time I decided it was a good idea to go clubbing in a pair of bright orange pants, before pulling a parking ticket prank on Dave. I had a semi-successful attempt at shaping-up (which was abandoned after a month, waahhh! I’ll try harder next year, I promise) as well as sharing my opinions on the “Violence Against Women: Australia Says No” campaign. And last but not least, how could I forget the time I managed to get both feet in my mouth at once with my dodgy Risk Assessment propaganda stunt.

Music

I briefly had time to pursue some music of my own this year but unfortunately found myself too busy to take anything seriously.

As far as concerts go, I didn’t go to many this year. Notable mentions include seeing Alice Cooper with my whole family (Mr. Cooper is a family event in our household), and nearly getting killed in the Slipknot mosh at Big Day Out.

However the biggest music event of 2005 for me was, of course, chasing Nine Inch Nails around the East Coast of Australia – an experience that will stay with me for as long as I live.

Social

Haha, where do I start? I think most of you would be pretty familiar with the major social events that occurred in my 2005. The biggest ones, of course, were the ones where parties went for several days in a row - such as the BIS/MIS Pubcrawl, the second impressions weekend, the final day of Masters, that insanely big night at Cargo (or more accurately, not at Cargo) – and even for a week straight. Now that’s what I call fun. ;-)

Thanks to everyone who invited me to parties this year, including (but not limited to) Alex, Alicia (hope you’re having fun in the UK, babe!), Jenny, Ariel, Stella, Brian, Douc, Steven, Cherry, Chouly, Chris, Mum, Daniel, Bob, Eric, Sandy, Jay & Helen, Kara, Kitten, Adam, Raelene, Mike, Mirko, Nawal, Kaye, Dave, Shu Wen, Thuy-An, Ed, Sneki, Lisa, Sandy, Tien, and Veronica.

And after all that, I never threw a proper 21st birthday party for myself! Haha. I mean, I had a tiny birthday dinner, but no real party. I think it’s because I know that people have very high expectations for my 21st (gauging from the response to my 18th and 20th) and I just never got time to plan something that would live up to the hype. Maybe this year I’ll plan a joint 21/22 party. We’ll see.

I’d also like to extend a big THANKYOU to everyone who’s stopped by this blog throughout 2005 and left the comments that keep me doing this. In no particular order, I’d like to thank some of the more regular commenters including (in no particular order) Andy K, Lauren, Jen, Krystle, Steph, Renée, Sweet, Andy, Mel, DDC, UTMG, Chuffed Enuff, Owen, ChickyBabe, Bec, Horny, Goliath, Logan, Mirko, and all the other non-regular and anonymous commenters who stroke my ego and make running a blog worthwhile! :-)

Thanks to everyone for a fantastic year.

Hey, Happy new year Tim...

Yeah, it was a shame that you never had a 21st. Oh well. I'm sure I can say this gap was made up with other shanagings throughout the year.

A huge TISM fan??? No way???

There is absolutely NO DOUBT we have rubbed shoulders then. In fact, I think I have only missed seeing them play twice in Adelaide ( including the most recent visit... *sob* ).

My better half has the rare priveledge of being able to say she's spanked Hitler Barassi's bum. We even replicated their flashing light costumes once and showed up at a gig at Flinders uni... where we were almost mauled by the crowd!!!!!

big big BIG BIG fan :)

General_Boy: Yep, guilty as charged. I love TISM. The sad part is that since they usually play on Saturday nights, I've missed several of their concerts due to my old work. :-( I didn't miss the last one, though!

Bare bum? Haha, that's one up on me! I only shook his hand.

UTMG: Hahaha, true, true.

Chloe: You HAVE to like Chuck Norris. It's the law. "Sect. 35B, Para. 7: Because the eyes of a ranger are upon you - any wrong you do he's gonna see."

Cat: Thanks Cat. What are you talking about?! You did have an exciting year! Remember that time you were in Marion, and you met that really cool dude with a TV on his back? Yeah, good times, good times. :-P
Thanks again, and happy new year! :-D

Happy New Year!

I dyed my hair firetruck red before.

What's so wrong with pink? I did the pink too. Bright pink. Slightly purply but pink nonetheless. =P

And I have long hair!

Ooh, really?! :-D Did any photos survive the incident?

Unfortunately none.

Mum hated the pink hair. She dyed my hair jet black for me a few nights later.

That's an all right kind of year, isn't it, Tim?

Somehow I feel speaking to TISM about Shane Crawford would have been more memorable for you, but them is the braking pedals.

Once I spoke to a member of TISM (whose identity cannot be revealed because of diplomatic immunity) about Tony Modra. I'm positive conversations are infinitely more entertaining when both parties share an opinion about a third party's faults.

2006 will see us release our first combined rapping ode to the life and laughs of Bill Hicks. You just wait and see.
